Goa Heritage Action Group to Celebrate World Heritage Day and World Earth Day

The Goa Heritage Action Group (GHAG), as part of its Silver Jubilee celebrations, will host a special event to mark World Heritage Day and World Earth Day on April 22, 2025 at Garcia de Orta (Panjim Municipal Garden).
The event will begin at 4:00 PM with a live demonstration of traditional occupations, showcasing Goa’s rich cultural traditions and skills passed down through generations.
At 6:00 PM, a felicitation ceremony will be held to honour four individuals for their outstanding contributions to Goan art and culture:
- Dr. Jayanti Naik, Sahitya Academy Winner, noted writer and folklorist
- Sonia Shirsat, a celebrated Fado singer
- Sushmita Gavas, cultural contributor
- Marius Fernandes, social innovator and festival curator
The felicitation will be conducted by Tomazinho Cardozo, the Chief Guest at the function.
At 7:00 PM, the evening will feature the launch of a new book titled “History of Women’s Contribution to Goa’s Struggle for Freedom: 1928–1961”, authored by Prof. Prajal Sakhardande. The book will be released by Prof. Sushila Sawant Mendes, who will attend as the Guest of Honour.
This celebration reflects GHAG’s continued efforts to preserve Goa’s heritage and raise environmental awareness through cultural engagement.
