Madganvcho Awaaz led by youth leader Prabhav Naik today submitted a memorandum to South Goa Superintendent of Police Sunita Sawant urging her immediate intervention to ensure the safety and security of Citizens of Margao.

In the memorandum, Prabhav Naik stated that there is complete fear and anxiety in the minds of residents of Margao due to the steep rise in thefts, robberies, and criminal activities. A spree of thefts and robberies which have taken place in the last fortnight is a matter of great concern concerning the safety and security of the citizens.

The CCTV footage which has become viral on social media has exposed the failure of the law enforcement authorities. It has come to light that the robbers have no fear and dare to break open the shops and establishments on the main roads of Margao city during the wee hours when there is continuous vehicular traffic moment. This shows that the Police department has miserably failed to conduct night vigil patrolling and nakabandhis at crucial junctions, Prabhav Naik has stated in the memorandum.

The memorandum also refers to the New Market Traders Association which has raised apprehensions over the efficiency of the law enforcing authorities. In the memorandum, Madganvcho Awaaz has drawn the attention of the Superintendent of Police to some of the establishments such as bars and taverns operating beyond the stipulated timings and rampant rise in gambling dens in and around Margao.

There are reports of fights between antisocial elements who are under the influence of Alcohol and narcotic substances. Various media reports have also brought to light that the sale of narcotic substances is on the rise, Prabhav Naik has mentioned in the memorandum.

We request your immediate intervention to stop these thefts, robberies, and crimes and also to take stringent action against the anti-social elements disturbing the peace in the society. It is important that the police department provides safety and security to the senior citizens; especially those who reside alone in their homes, states the memorandum.

As most of the Goans prefer to celebrate the eve of the new year and the new year by visiting places of worship and attending celebrations away from their residences, the anti-social elements and criminals are likely to take this opportunity to conduct thefts and robberies. Traffic management in the city also needs to be regularised these days. I appeal to you to deploy police & traffic personnel at various churches and chapels during the midnight mass to ensure that safety is provided to the people and there is no traffic congestion. Strict action needs to be taken against drunken driving to avoid fatal accidents, mentions the memorandum urging the Police to take serious cognizance of the issues highlighted in the memorandum and take immediate steps.
