Hope BJP Government which did nothing in last 15 months on Private Member Resolution moved by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao demanding Law to Stop Widow Discrimination, Abuse & Isolation will act now after the Advisory of National Human Rights Commission. Women & Child Development Minister Vishwajit Rane must immediately bring Law, demanded Goa Pradesh Mahils Congress President Beena Naik.

Reacting to the Advisory issued by National Human Rights Commission directing all Central Government, States and Union Territories to Protect Human Rights of the Widows, Beena Naik slammed BJP Government for deliberately not doing anything on the sensitive social issue.

If BJP Government had immediately acted on the Private Member Resolution moved by Leader of Opposition on 31st March 2023 urging Government to take steps against “Widow Discrimination, Widow Isolation and Widow Abuse”, Goa would have become the First State in India to bring in such Law and set an example for others, claimed Beena Naik.

Time is still not lost and I urge Women and Child Development Minister Vishwajit Rane to bring a Bill in Seventh Session of Eighth Goa Legislative Assembly commencing in July and give justice to Widows, stated Beena Naik.

Congress Legislature Party Leader Yuri Alemao had also reminded the BJP Government earlier this year to take steps in Protecting Rights of Widows after congratulating a widow Usha Naik for performing Wedding Rituals of her daughter Dr. Gautami with Prathamesh Dicholkar. Unfortunately, BJP Government did not act, said Beena Naik.

Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress has always extended Helping Hand to needy Widows in Goa. We had also given a Memorandum to all the MLAs urging them take sympathetic steps for protecting Widows. A strong Law will really give big relief to widows across religions who are facing challenges after death of their husbands, said Beena Naik.
