Mumbai : Sri Lanka Tourism has positioned the island nation as a premier destination for Indian weddings, following the successful completion of a series of multi-city luxury wedding showcases across India.

The initiative brought together Sri Lankan hotels, resorts, heritage properties and service providers with leading Indian wedding planners, travel agents and media representatives. The events featured curated wedding concepts and networking sessions, highlighting Sri Lanka’s ability to host both traditional Indian ceremonies and contemporary celebrations.

“Sri Lanka is now open for destination weddings, and we invite India to come celebrate love with us,” said Buddhika Hewawasam, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. “From pristine beaches and tea garden retreats to colonial mansions and heritage forts, the island offers everything needed to create weddings that are truly unforgettable.”

The promotional campaign underscored several advantages for Indian families, including proximity and short flight times from major cities, simplified visa procedures, and a wide range of venues from beachfront resorts to heritage forts. Organisers also emphasised Sri Lanka’s combination of luxury and affordability, supported by world-class hospitality and planners familiar with Indian wedding traditions.

The showcases witnessed strong participation from Sri Lankan luxury hotels, destination management companies and iconic venues, alongside prominent Indian wedding planners and travel agents. According to organisers, the collaborative effort reflected the potential for a growing cross-border wedding tourism market.

Sri Lanka Tourism also highlighted its readiness to meet the increasing demand for boutique and intimate weddings among Indian couples, offering tailored packages that blend cultural richness, natural landscapes and luxury.
