Rectify Shortcomings & Notify Lohia Maidan : Prabhav Naik
Margao : “Remembering the pioneer of the Goa Revolution Movement, I paid floral tributes at the statue of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia at Lohia Maidan, Margao, and wrote to the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to notify this historic site and address shortcomings post its renovation,” stated Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.
Prabhav Naik has urged the Government of Goa to immediately notify Lohia Maidan, Margao as a “Place of Historic Importance,” highlighting its pivotal role in Goa’s freedom movement and public life. He stressed that such recognition is long overdue and, if necessary, should be expedited through an Ordinance followed by legislation.
Marking the 116th birth anniversary of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, Madganvcho Awaaz emphasized the historic and emotional significance of Lohia Maidan as a symbol of Goa’s resistance, identity, and democratic spirit, deserving of preservation with due respect and seriousness.
Calling for urgent and time-bound action, Prabhav Naik urged in his letter to the Government to restore Lohia Maidan to its rightful glory well before Goa Revolution Day on 18th June 2026, in keeping with its historic legacy.
He recalled that the issue was previously raised on 16th June 2025, when he had brought attention to the poor condition of the Maidan with supporting video evidence. However, he expressed concern that no substantial corrective measures have been undertaken since then.
Prabhav Naik further pointed out that the recent renovation has left several critical shortcomings unaddressed, including the need to widen and redesign the stage for public events, upgrade washrooms and changing rooms, repair unsafe steps, and improve the overall structural and aesthetic condition of the premises.
He also underlined the importance of ensuring regular maintenance through a competent and independent agency to prevent recurrence of neglect and to maintain the dignity of this historic site.
