Kochi :
Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar will discharge the functions of the Tamil Nadu Governor after the Centre transferred incumbent RN Ravi to West Bengal as part of a gubernatorial reshuffle, according to an official notification issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Arlekar will hold the additional charge of Tamil Nadu until a new Governor is appointed. The move follows the Centre’s decision to shift Ravi, who has served as the Governor of Tamil Nadu since 2021, to West Bengal.
Ravi’s tenure in Tamil Nadu saw repeated confrontations with the DMK government led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, particularly over the delay in clearing Bills passed by the Assembly and differences over legislative procedures.
Arlekar, a senior BJP leader from Goa and a former Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, has been serving as the Governor of Kerala. With the latest arrangement, he will temporarily perform the responsibilities of the Tamil Nadu Governor in addition to his current role.
The changes come as part of a broader reshuffle of governors announced by the Centre. The arrangement will remain in place until the appointment of a full-time Governor for Tamil Nadu.
