Prakash Magdum Assumes Charge as NFDC Managing Director

Prakash Magdum has officially taken over as the Managing Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), marking a new chapter in India’s cinematic landscape.


A seasoned officer from the 1999 batch of the Indian Information Service, Magdum has held several key positions across institutions that shape India’s media and entertainment sector. His illustrious two-decade-long career includes serving as the Director of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), where he spearheaded efforts in film archiving and restoration, preserving India’s cinematic heritage.


Prior to his new role, Magdum served as Additional Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) in Ahmedabad. He also contributed to the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) as Registrar and has been a spokesperson for the Ministry of Defence in Thiruvananthapuram.


His appointment is expected to bring fresh perspectives to NFDC, focusing on boosting Indian cinema, supporting independent filmmakers, and ensuring stronger global representation of India’s rich storytelling tradition.
