Prabhav Seek Top Civil Honour for Goa’s Singing Legend Bai Lorna

Margao: As Goa’s beloved singing legend Bai Lorna turns 81 today, Madganvcho Awaaz and Youth Leader Prabhav Naik have extended heartfelt wishes for her good health, happiness, and continued musical journey. Bai Lorna, whose soulful voice has enchanted generations, remains an enduring symbol of Goan culture and identity, stated Prabhav Naik.
For over six decades, Bai Lorna has mesmerised audiences in Goa, across India, and around the world. Her timeless Konkani songs have not only entertained but also preserved the linguistic and cultural heritage of our State. From the vibrant tiatr stage to international concerts, she has carried Goa’s music to global ears with grace and passion, said Naik.
Her contribution to the promotion of Konkani music is unmatched. She has inspired countless young artists to embrace the Konkani language, to value Goan traditions, and to see music as a bridge between generations. Bai Lorna’s artistry has transcended mere performance, becoming a cultural movement in itself, he added.
In recognition of her exceptional legacy, Madganvcho Awaaz and Youth Leader Prabhav Naik have called upon the Government of Goa to confer upon Bai Lorna the Gomant Vibhushan Award, the State’s highest civilian honour. “This recognition would be a fitting tribute to her lifelong dedication to enriching Goan music and culture,” Naik said.
Furthermore, he urged the State Government to officially recommend Bai Lorna for the Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian honours of the Republic of India. Such a national-level recognition would place her among the pantheon of India’s most revered cultural icons, where she rightfully belongs, Naik emphasised.
On this special occasion, Naik saluted Bai Lorna’s extraordinary journey, her voice that continues to inspire, and her undying love for Goa. “May she enjoy many more years of music, health, and happiness. Goa owes her not just applause, but the highest honours the State and the Nation can bestow,” he said.
