Prabhav Naik Criticise Margao MLA’s ‘Pattern of Political Opportunism’

Margao :
Youth leader Prabhav Naik, along with the civic collective Madganvcho Awaaz, has accused Margao MLA Digambar Kamat of repeated political hypocrisy, citing a “pattern of contradictions” in his public statements and affiliations.
“The real Emergency for Madganvkars is not one from history, but the ongoing crisis of being represented by someone who stands for little beyond his own political survival,” Naik said in a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday.
Citing 2020 Praise for Indira Gandhi, Group Questions Recent U-Turn
Referring to past remarks made by Mr. Kamat, the youth leader highlighted the latter’s 2020 statement in which he reportedly praised the actions of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during the Emergency period as “decisions taken in national interest”.
“Fast forward to 2025, and the same individual now criticises that very era,” Mr. Naik said. “This is not a revelation for the people of Margao, it’s simply the same actor with a new script.”
‘Undisputed Grandfather of Defections’: Naik Slams Kamat’s Party Switches
Mr. Kamat’s political journey has included multiple party shifts, a point Naik used to underscore his criticism. “He has jumped parties not once, not twice, but three times,” Naik alleged. “His legacy is not one of leadership or service, but of betrayal and backroom deals.”
Videos shared by Mr. Naik on social media reportedly show Mr. Kamat pledging allegiance to a political party and its leaders in November 2020 and again in February 2022. “Ironically, he pledged this loyalty in front of the same grandson he referred to in his latest speech – a moment that now reflects the depth of his inconsistency,” Naik said.
Criticism Framed Around Constitutional Values
“Back then, he called himself a political grandfather and claimed to defend the Constitution,” Mr. Naik remarked. “Today, he appeals to the same generation while siding with the very forces he once strongly opposed.”
According to Naik, this political flip-flopping “undermines the sanctity of the Constitution” and “betrays every voter, worker, and citizen who believed in him”.
Madganvcho Awaaz, echoing Mr. Naik’s views, issued a sharp rebuke of what it described as “a continued pattern of deceit and opportunism”. The group urged Margao residents to demand more accountable and consistent representation.
“Mr. Kamat’s political credibility has long expired. The only logical step forward is for the people to retire this seasoned defector and shape a more trustworthy future,” Mr. Naik concluded.
