Pahalgam Terror Attack: CM Omar Abdullah Chairs All-Party Meet in Srinagar to Forge United Political Response

Srinagar :
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday convened an all-party meeting in Srinagar to deliberate on the aftermath of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 tourists and left over a dozen injured.

The meeting commenced at 3 p.m. at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), bringing together political leaders across party lines in a show of solidarity and collective resolve. Chief Minister Abdullah had announced the meeting on social media on Wednesday, inviting leaders of all major political parties and elected representatives from the Union Territory.

“In the aftermath of the attack in Pahalgam, I have called an all-party meeting… This is not merely a tragedy for a region or party — it is a wound upon the very soul of Jammu and Kashmir,” Mr. Abdullah stated in a letter addressed to party heads.

Key Leaders in Attendance

Prominent attendees at the meeting included:

  • Farooq Abdullah, President, National Conference (NC)

  • Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairperson, Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP)

  • Tariq Hameed Karra, President, J-K Pradesh Congress Committee

  • Altaf Bukhari, President, Apni Party

  • Sajad Lone, Chairman, People’s Conference

  • Mehboob Beg, Senior Leader, People’s Democratic Party (PDP)

Lok Sabha MP from Srinagar Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi of the NC was also present. Other parties represented included the BJP, JD(U), CPI(M), Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), Peoples Democratic Front (PDF), Awami National Conference (ANC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and the National Panthers Party (NPP).

Unified Stand Against Terror

In his opening remarks, Mr. Abdullah emphasised the need for a unified political front against terrorism and reaffirmed the responsibility of public representatives to uphold democratic values during such testing times.

“The lives lost and the anguish inflicted upon innocent citizens have deeply shaken us all. It is our duty as custodians of democratic values to come together, beyond political affiliations, to respond with unity and resolve,” the Chief Minister said.

The all-party meeting is expected to issue a joint statement condemning the attack and charting a roadmap for a coordinated political and administrative response to prevent further acts of violence in the region.

The Pahalgam attack, widely condemned both nationally and internationally, marks one of the deadliest incidents in the region in recent years, prompting renewed calls for a robust counter-terrorism strategy and heightened security measures.
