In a significant healthcare initiative, Velim MLA Cruz Silva has launched a vision restoration campaign aimed at addressing eye-related ailments, particularly cataracts, among residents of his constituency. The campaign, conducted in collaboration with ASG Eye Hospital, has already facilitated over 20 cataract surgeries in the past five months and screened the eyes of more than 1,000 individuals.

Free Eye Check-ups and Surgeries

The campaign, driven by a commitment to accessible healthcare, involves free eye check-up camps and cataract surgeries. Held at the MLA’s office and other locations in Velim, the initiative seeks to provide timely diagnosis and treatment for common but debilitating eye conditions.

MLA Silva emphasized that the program’s main goal is to “resolve eye issues, improve vision, and restore sight,” particularly for those unable to afford private treatment.

Residents Share Success Stories

Several beneficiaries, including Justin Fernandes, Sunil Fernandes, N. Fernandes, and Sebestian Fernandes, spoke about their experiences. Suffering from blurred vision due to cataracts, they underwent surgery following diagnoses at the local health center. Post-surgery, all four individuals reported significant improvement in their vision and expressed deep gratitude to MLA Silva for making the treatment possible.

Expansion Plans Announced

Buoyed by the community’s overwhelming response, MLA Cruz Silva announced plans to open another eye examination center within the Velim Assembly Constituency. “The need is real, and the impact is visible. We aim to reach even more people in the coming months,” he stated.

The ongoing campaign marks a proactive step in addressing public health needs at the grassroots level, combining political leadership with medical outreach to bring tangible improvements in the quality of life for Velim’s residents.
