Marathi translation of ‘Kalij Usavlam’ to be released in Mumbai
Mumbai:
The Marathi translation of Kalij Usavlam, a collection of autobiographical essays by noted Konkani writer Uday Mhambro, will be released in Mumbai on December 20. The book has been translated from Konkani into Marathi by Pournima Kerkar and published by Sahit Prakashan.
The release function will be held at Gomantak Seva Sangh, Vile Parle East, and will be organised by Aami Goenkar, an organisation of Goans based in Mumbai. Bhaskar Naik, the former Director of Higher Education in Goa, will release the book.
Following the release, Mr. Mhambro will be in conversation with Disha Prabhu, discussing the themes and context of the book. Nisha Parsanis will attend the programme as a special guest. In connection with Goa Liberation Day, observed on December 19, freedom fighters associated with the Goa liberation movement will also be honoured at the event.
Originally published in Konkani, Kalij Usavlam has received wide readership in Goa. The book has earlier been translated into Malayalam and transliterated into the Kannada-Konkani script, and has been well received by readers. The Marathi edition follows long-standing demand from readers for wider accessibility.
The organisers have also scheduled a musical programme titled Surile Goenkar as part of the evening’s events. Mohan Sanzgiri, president of Ami Goenkar, has invited the public to attend the program.
