Maharashtra wins Parrikar Trophy at Beach Sprint Rowing Nationals
Panaji: Maharashtra lifted the Padma Bhushan Manohar Parrikar Rolling Trophy in the women’s category at the 1st Beach Sprint National Rowing Championship Goa 2026, held at Vainguinim Beach, Dona Paula, from February 26 to 28.
Organised by the Rowing Federation of India in collaboration with the Rowing and Sculling Association De Goa, and supported by the Sports Authority of Goa, the three day championship marked a milestone for coastal rowing in the country.
Rowers representing several States competed in the event, which began with time trials on the opening day, followed by knockout rounds and quarterfinals on the second day, and semifinals and finals on the concluding day. The beach sprint format combined a sprint on sand, a short high intensity rowing course in open waters, and a final run to the finish, testing the speed, endurance and tactical ability of participants.

The championship concluded with a medal ceremony attended by Amitabh Sharma, Executive Council Member of the Indian Olympic Association, who was the chief guest, along with officials of the Rowing Federation of India and the Sports Authority of Goa. Officials said the event highlighted Goa’s growing infrastructure and support for water sports and coastal disciplines.
