LAQs Submitted to Sardesai Over Margao Concerns

Margao : In a decisive push for urban reform, Madganvcho Awaaz, a Margao-based civic group led by youth leader Prabhav Naik, has submitted a detailed set of Legislative Assembly Questions (LAQs) to Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai. These questions address key governance, infrastructure, and planning challenges confronting Goa’s commercial capital.

Focus on Margao Master Plan 2041 and Smart City Delays

One of the primary LAQs raises pointed queries regarding the status, objectives, and public involvement in the much-debated Margao Master Plan 2041. The group has also sought updates on the proposed Smart City infrastructure works, many of which remain on hold.

Madganvcho Awaaz emphasized the lack of transparency, public consultation, and financial clarity in both initiatives, raising concerns about the direction of urban planning in Margao.

Another LAQ highlights the halted recruitment drives and fee hikes imposed by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC). The group questioned the rationale behind the rising costs to citizens amid growing public dissatisfaction with municipal services.

Lohia Maidan Development and South Goa Hospital Upgrade in Spotlight

The neglected condition of Lohia Maidan, a site of historical and cultural significance, has also been brought to the Assembly’s attention. Madganvcho Awaaz demands a clear timeline and strategy for its development and preservation.

Additionally, the group has called for updates on the long-pending upgrade of the South Goa District Hospital to tertiary care status, a move seen as critical for improving healthcare accessibility and quality across the region.

Proposal for Monument Honouring Eminent Madganvkars

In a Zero Hour Mention, Madganvcho Awaaz has urged the government to install a monument honouring iconic Madganvkars from the fields of literature, arts, sports, social work, and politics. The group noted that this would be a long-overdue tribute to Margao’s rich cultural heritage.

A Calling Attention Motion has also been submitted, seeking a comprehensive Rescue Plan for Margao to address persistent issues such as urban decay, unregulated construction, traffic chaos, and deteriorating public infrastructure.

MLA Assures Assembly Action

Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai met with representatives of Madganvcho Awaaz and acknowledged the urgency and relevance of the concerns raised. He assured the delegation that these issues would be raised during the upcoming Goa Legislative Assembly session.

“Madganvcho Awaaz remains committed to ensuring Margao’s rightful development through people-centric advocacy and sustained accountability from our public representatives,” said Prabhav Naik.
