India Clinches Double Victory at 4th Asian Roll Ball Championship in Goa

India emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s categories at the 4th Asian Roll Ball Championship, held at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim. In a thrilling finale, the Indian men’s team defeated Iran with an impressive score of 11-4, while the women’s team secured a narrow 3-2 victory against the same opponent.

Goa’s Tourism Minister, Rohan Khaunte, presented the trophy to the winning teams, marking a proud moment for the host nation. The championship, organized by the Roll Ball Federation of India in collaboration with the Sports Authority of Goa, featured 19 teams from 12 Asian countries, including Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Iran, Oman, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Bhutan.

The event, which ran from December 16 to 19, was inaugurated by Goa’s Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Govind Gaude. Speaking at the opening ceremony, he congratulated the organizers and highlighted the positive impact such tournaments have on Goa’s sports ecosystem. “Events like these inspire young athletes and reinforce our commitment to developing Olympic sports in the state,” he said.

Roll Ball, an Indian indigenous sport invented by Rajesh Dhabade, combines speed skating with team play, featuring six players on each side. The championship attracted significant local interest, with athletes and enthusiasts turning out in large numbers to support the games.

The 4th Asian Roll Ball Championship has set the stage for further growth of this unique sport and reinforced India’s dominance in the discipline.
