Govt Jobs in Goa Now Linked to Konkani Language Test
Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Thursday announced a major reform in the State’s government job recruitment process, making the Konkani language test mandatory for all applicants seeking government employment.
The Chief Minister said the new system would streamline recruitment by replacing multiple departmental tests with a single online examination. Alongside educational and residential qualifications, candidates will now have to clear the Konkani language paper to be eligible for government positions.
“Even if an applicant holds a valid 15-year Goa residence certificate, he or she will not qualify for a government job without passing the Konkani test,” Dr. Sawant stated.
He added that the reform aims to ensure fairness, transparency, and respect for Goa’s linguistic and cultural heritage. The move, he said, reinforces the importance of Konkani, the State’s official language, in public administration and community identity.
