Goa’s First NIS-Certified Roll Ball Coach Felicitated by Sports Minister Govind Gaude

In a significant milestone for Goan sports, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Govind Gaude, felicitated Rajat Irkal, the first NIS-certified coach for roll ball from Goa. Irkal recently completed his NIS certification from the prestigious National Institute of Sports (NIS) in Patiala, further enhancing his credentials and commitment to sports coaching.
The felicitation was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Shri Tapan Acharya, President of the Roll Ball Federation of India and President of the Goa Roll Ball Association; Shri Rohit Khandekar, Director for IT & PR at the Roll Ball Federation of India; Shri Brahmanand Gaonkar, Treasurer of the Goa Roll Ball Association; and Shri Vivek Naik, along with other members of the Goan roll ball fraternity.
Minister Gaude congratulated Irkal for his dedication and achievements, highlighting the importance of NIS certification in elevating the standards of sports coaching in Goa. “Rajat Irkal’s accomplishment is a proud moment for Goa and a testament to his unwavering commitment to the sport. His NIS certification will undoubtedly inspire other coaches and athletes in our state,” said Gaude. After seeking blessing from Shri Govind Gaude, Rajat Irkal thanked Tapan Acharya, President of RBFI for his support and motivation in completion of this course.
The National Institute of Sports, commonly known as NIS Patiala, is India’s premier sports training institute. Established in 1961, it is recognized for its comprehensive training programs and has produced numerous elite coaches and athletes. The NIS certification is a rigorous program that equips coaches with advanced skills and knowledge in sports science, training methodologies, and athlete management.
Roll ball is an unique and emerging sport played on roller skates . Invented in India, by Physical Education teacher Shri Raju Dabhade, it has gained international popularity and is played in over 50 countries. The game involves two teams of six players each, who aim to score goals by throwing a ball into the opponent’s net while skating on roller skates. Roll ball requires agility, coordination, and teamwork, making it a thrilling and dynamic sport.
The Roll Ball Federation of India has been instrumental in promoting and developing this sport in the country. The recognition of Rajat Irkal as the first NIS-certified roll ball coach from Goa is a significant achievement and is expected to boost the sport’s growth and popularity in the region.
