Goans Are Not Pakistanis, Reinstate Free Water Scheme: Prabhav Naik

Margao :
Madganvcho Awaaz and youth leader Prabhav Naik has criticised the Goa government’s decision to discontinue the 16,000-litre monthly free water scheme, calling it a betrayal of public trust and a denial of basic rights.
In a statement issued on Monday, Mr. Naik said the move comes at a time when Goans are already burdened by rising living costs. “Goans are not Pakistanis. We are law-abiding citizens who deserve dignity and access to essential services,” he said, drawing a contrast with the Centre’s rhetoric on cutting water supply to Pakistan.
Mr. Naik questioned the rationale behind ending a welfare scheme that, according to him, had brought relief to thousands of households. “If the government can afford to host lavish events, it should also be able to sustain basic welfare measures. The lack of public consultation and transparency is deeply disappointing,” he said.
He further stated that the abrupt cancellation of the scheme reflects misplaced priorities and raises questions about the administration’s credibility. “Where is the accountability? Where is the empathy for ordinary citizens?” he asked.
Madganvcho Awaaz has demanded that the scheme be reinstated immediately and has urged citizens across Goa to speak out. “Water is not a privilege; it is a right. Denying it amounts to denying people their dignity,” Mr. Naik said.
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Naik warned that if the government does not reconsider its stance, it must be prepared to face public anger. “This is not just about water; it’s about promises made and principles abandoned,” he added.
