Goa Taxi App Crosses 70,000 Rides, Empanels 1,000+ Drivers, Boosting Digital Mobility in the State

Panaji :
Goa’s ambitious digital transport initiative, the Goa Taxi App, has crossed a major milestone—completing over 70,000 rides and onboarding more than 1,000 drivers since its launch. The app, developed under the Directorate of Transport, is transforming local mobility by offering a unified, government-regulated platform for taxi services across the state.
GoaTaxiApp: Seamless Travel for Tourists and Locals
Designed to support Goa’s reputation as a premium tourism destination, the app allows residents and visitors to book taxis online, track rides in real-time, and access transparent, fixed fares.
Key features include:
-
Online booking and registration
-
Real-time ride updates
-
GPS tracking with Google Maps integration
-
Fare calculation based on government rates
-
Payment via wallet, UPI, cards, and cash
-
In-app SOS button for emergencies
A Phased Rollout for Wider Reach
The project began with the launch of a dedicated Goa Taxi counter at Manohar International Airport on January 5, 2023. It later expanded to Margao Railway Station on October 16, and soon after, the mobile app was made available on Android and iOS platforms.
These steps have helped consolidate a large number of independent taxi operators into one digital ecosystem.
GoaTaxiApp :Empowering Local Drivers
More than a technological upgrade, the platform serves as an economic enabler. Drivers benefit from increased visibility, flexible hours, and fair compensation as per government-notified rates.
High-performing drivers receive priority in trip allocation, while a portion of the platform’s convenience fees goes toward welfare schemes for drivers and their families.
“The Goa Taxi App is not just a technical innovation—it is a commitment to building an inclusive, efficient, and safe transport ecosystem,” said Kedar Naik, Director of Tourism.
“This strengthens Goa’s appeal as a responsible tourism state while supporting thousands of livelihoods.”
Making Goa Travel Safer and Smarter
The app has become a preferred choice for travellers who value reliability and safety—especially those unfamiliar with Goa’s routes. With 24/7 availability, no surge pricing, and transparent billing, it also reduces reliance on unregulated taxi services.
Authorities have also noted that the app helps standardize fare structures, reduce disputes, and offer a digital trail for safety and accountability.
A Model for Future Mobility
As Goa prepares for a strong summer and monsoon tourism season, the Goa Taxi App stands as a critical pillar in the state’s digital infrastructure. It aligns with broader national goals of smart city integration and inclusive urban mobility.
With growing adoption and positive user feedback, the app is being seen as a replicable model for other Indian states seeking to digitize public transport without displacing local operators.
