Former engineer held for impersonating Chennai firm in cyber fraud

CHENNAI :
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested a former engineer for allegedly impersonating a Chennai-based chemical manufacturing company and defrauding several clients through online transactions.
The accused, identified as Prabhu (32) from Vellore district, is said to have created a fake version of the company’s logo and name to approach clients via email, collecting advance payments of ₹10,000 each from multiple individuals under the guise of business dealings.
According to police, the complaint was lodged by Suresh (63), Vice-President of the firm located on Cathedral Road, after the management discovered that their company’s identity was being misused to solicit funds.
Investigations revealed that Prabhu had resigned from the company two years ago. Using his previous association, he allegedly forged documents and communicated with clients, deceiving them into transferring money for fabricated chemical supply deals.
Further inquiries showed that Prabhu had already been arrested by the Cuddalore Town Police on October 4 in connection with a similar offence. He was subsequently lodged in Cuddalore Central Prison. Following this, a special CCB team arrested him formally in connection with the Chennai case and produced him before a city court on October 17, which remanded him in judicial custody.
Police said further investigation is underway to trace additional victims and recover the defrauded amounts.
