BENGALURU : The Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) on Tuesday announced the launch of a new specialisation in “Entrepreneurship for Tech Startups” under its two-year Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) in Entrepreneurship.
The AICTE-approved programme is aimed at technology professionals seeking to transition into entrepreneurship and at early-stage founders looking to strengthen their business fundamentals. The announcement was made in the city, which the institute described as a natural choice given its position as India’s technology and startup hub.
The specialisation will focus on emerging and high-growth sectors such as EdTech, HealthTech, FinTech, artificial intelligence-led enterprises and other digital ventures. The curriculum is designed to equip students with skills in opportunity identification, feasibility assessment, business model creation, product development, funding readiness and go-to-market strategy.
Sunil Shukla, Director General, EDII, said the institute intends to create a structured pathway for young professionals who view entrepreneurship as a purposeful career choice. He added that the initiative aligns with the national vision of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, which envisages India as a developed nation by 2047.
Milestone-based approach
Introduced in 1998, the PGDM in Entrepreneurship is focused exclusively on venture creation. The programme is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education, accredited by the National Board of Accreditation and recognised as MBA-equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities.
The institute follows a milestone-based pedagogy that enables students to work on their ventures during the course. Participants receive structured mentoring, industry exposure and incubation support through EDII’s Centre for Advancing and Launching Enterprises (CALEL), along with milestone-linked seed assistance.
EDII said it has more than 2,200 alumni from the programme, with nearly 79% engaged in entrepreneurial activity. In addition to the new Tech Startups track, students may specialise in New Enterprise Creation, Family Business Management or Social Entrepreneurship.
Outreach in Karnataka
EDII established its regional office in Bengaluru in 1997 and has since partnered with government agencies and corporate organisations in Karnataka on initiatives related to women’s empowerment, MSME development, youth entrepreneurship and livelihood promotion. These interventions have covered districts including Mandya, Tumakuru, Kolar and Nelamangala.
The institute has also implemented CSR-supported entrepreneurship programmes in collaboration with companies such as Accenture, HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank and IDBI Bank, with a focus on promoting enterprise among women.
Headquartered in Ahmedabad, EDII is a national resource institution dedicated to entrepreneurship education, training, research and enterprise development.
