Congress questions Vishwajit Rane on ‘land scams, healthcare lapses’

Panaji: The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Monday criticised Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, accusing him of spreading “fabricated lies” about Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to divert attention from the State’s healthcare situation and alleged land scams.

GPCC president Amit Patkar, in a statement, alleged that Mr. Rane was resorting to “political theatrics” instead of addressing what he described as a “collapsing health infrastructure” in Goa. He cited the shortage of doctors, absence of specialists, and the condition of Goa Medical College (GMC) as pressing concerns.

The Congress leader also raised questions over alleged irregularities in land deals, claiming that such practices had eroded Goa’s heritage and identity. “Goans are not blind to his track record,” Mr. Patkar said, accusing the Minister of favouring “land scams and backdoor deals” over public interest.

The GPCC posed three questions to Mr. Rane: why Goa’s healthcare system was “collapsing”, why “land scams were flourishing while Goans lost their land and identity”, and why the Minister “preferred slander over accountability”.

Reiterating support for Rahul Gandhi, the GPCC said his politics was “rooted in compassion, truth, and accountability,” contrasting it with what it described as Mr. Rane’s “betrayal of Goans’ trust”.

The BJP has earlier dismissed similar allegations from the Opposition, calling them politically motivated.
