Congress Gears Up for Zilla Panchayat Polls...

Panaji :
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) held a key organisational meeting in North Goa on Tuesday to strategise for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections. The meeting was chaired by GPCC President Amit Patkar and attended by Block Presidents and Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from across North Goa.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Mr. Patkar said that the Congress was fully prepared to contest the elections, claiming that the party had strengthened its ground-level organisation. He alleged that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had engaged in what he described as “vote theft”. He accused it of undermining democratic norms through defections, money power, and misuse of administrative machinery.

“Our cadre is alert and ready at every booth and block level. We will not allow any manipulation of the people’s mandate,” Mr. Patkar said. He described the upcoming ZP polls as a “battle to defend democracy” and expressed confidence that Congress would secure a victory.

The meeting reportedly focused on booth-level vigilance measures and coordination efforts among party workers to ensure transparency and fair play during the polls. Mr. Patkar added that the Congress, having rebuilt its grassroots network in recent years, was now in a position to take on the BJP more effectively.

The GPCC President framed the ZP elections as an opportunity for the electorate to respond to what he called the BJP’s “arrogance and betrayal of public trust.” He asserted that the Congress campaign would be people-driven and centred on local governance issues.

The Zilla Panchayat elections are expected to serve as a significant indicator of party strength ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls.
