Centenary year celebration of Laxman Pai Fondekar in margao
Margao: The Centenary Year Celebration of Margao-born son of Goa and world-renowned artist and painter Laxman Pai Fondekar is being organised by Madganvcho Awaaz on Sunday, 4th January 2026, from 4.30 pm onwards at Imperial Hall, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Stadium, Margao. “Join us in celebrating a centenary of legacy, art, and inspiration,” said Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.
Laxman Pai Fondekar was among Goa’s most influential modern artists, celebrated for blending Indian traditions, folk motifs, mythology, and contemporary expression into a powerful and distinctive visual language. His fearless creativity and originality earned him recognition on national and international art platforms, said Naik.
Highlighting his achievements, Naik stated that in acknowledgement of his exceptional contribution to art and culture, Laxman Pai was conferred the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and later honoured with Goa’s highest civilian award, the Gomant Vibhushan, affirming his towering stature in the cultural history of Goa and India.
The centenary celebration will be held in the esteemed presence of his son Akash Pai and family, along with renowned students of Laxman Pai, Prof. Mahesh Vengurlekar, Nirupa Naik, Maendra Alvares, Shridhar Kamat Bambolkar, and Sanjay Harmalkar reflecting the enduring guru–shishya legacy of the master artist, said Naik.
Conceived as more than a commemorative event, the programme aims to revisit and celebrate Laxman Pai’s lifelong commitment to artistic excellence, discipline, and cultural rootedness, values that continue to inspire generations of artists and students.
Madganvcho Awaaz has appealed to citizens, artists, students, and art lovers to participate in this historic centenary celebration and collectively honour a great son of Goa who also actively participated in the Goa Liberation Movement, and whose life and art continue to inspire beyond time and borders.
