Attempt to murder charges must be framed in Margao attack: Prabhav Naik
Margao : Police may call the brutal attack on a woman in Margao a case of theft, but the assault clearly amounts to an attempt to murder, and charges under “Attempt to Murder” must be immediately framed. Urgent action is also required to make Margao free of anti-social elements who have virtually occupied public places and turned the town into a lawless zone, stated Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.
Margao has become unsafe not only at night but even during daytime, with citizens especially women and senior citizens living in constant fear. This growing insecurity reflects a complete collapse of law and order and a serious failure to protect ordinary residents, he said.
Prabhav Naik stated that he has been consistently raising the issue of deteriorating law and order in Margao for the past one and a half years, warning that such serious incidents were inevitable. Despite repeated alerts, the government has remained totally insensitive and indifferent, he claimed.
After visiting the victim’s house, her relatives informed him that she has shifted to a relative’s place out of fear. It is deeply disturbing that victims are forced to abandon their homes while criminals continue to roam freely. He prayed for her speedy recovery.
He further stated that the silence of Margao MLA Digambar Kamat on this shocking incident is highly condemnable. His failure to even issue a statement exposes a complete lack of concern for public safety and the suffering of Margao’s citizens.
The Margao MLA is on record stating that he sleeps at 10 pm and is not bothered about what happens in Margao at night, and has publicly instructed police to act on nuisance only till 9 pm. Such an attitude has emboldened anti-social elements and must end immediately before Margao witnesses more such violent crimes, demanded Prabhav Naik.
