Anora Dominates 97th Oscars: Biggest Wins, Shocking Upsets, and Historic Firsts!
Anora, a screwball comedy-drama about a sex worker who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, dominated the 97th Academy Awards, taking home the night’s top honors. The film won Best Picture, Best Actress, Best Director, Best Editing, and Best Original Screenplay.
The musical Emilia Perez, which led with the most nominations (13), secured victories for Best Original Song and Best Supporting Actress.
Adrien Brody won Best Actor for his performance in The Brutalist, marking his second Oscar. Brody previously made history in 2003 as the youngest actor to win the Best Actor award for The Pianist at age 29. Mikey Madison won Best Actress for her role in Anora.
Kieran Culkin earned Best Supporting Actor for his role in A Real Pain, while Paul Tazewell made history as the first Black winner of Best Costume Design for Wicked.
No Other Land won Best Documentary Feature for its poignant portrayal of Israeli settler violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
