Prabhav Naik Opposes Plan to Demolish Ganesh Pandal Site in Margao Garden
Margao : “From Shree Ganesh Pandal scandal to creating a nuisance outside Shree Ganesh Temple at Aquem Ring Road, local MLA & PWD Minister Digambar Kamat has crossed every line. His attempt to demolish the revered pooja venue of the Margao Municipal Sarvajanik Shree Ganeshotsav to facilitate a two-storeyed structure is a direct assault on faith and tradition,” stated Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.
Reacting to the tender issued by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation amounting to 3.96 crore for the demolition of the existing structure and construction of a two-storey building in the Margao Municipal Garden, Naik strongly condemned the move, terming it insensitive and unacceptable. He questioned the intent behind pushing such a project without taking the local community and devotees into confidence.
Prabhav Naik further highlighted that the Margao Municipal Garden holds immense heritage and emotional significance for the people of Margao. For generations, it has served as a space for cultural gatherings, childhood memories, and community bonding, making it an inseparable part of the town’s identity.
He accused Digambar Kamat of consistently disregarding public sentiments and prioritizing unnecessary construction over the preservation of cultural and religious spaces. Prabhav Naik also expressed apprehension that the proposed two-storey structure could eventually be allotted to a bar and restaurant, or even a dance bar.
Reaffirming his stand, Prabhav Naik asserted that Madganvcho Awaaz will not allow this iconic and beautiful garden to be reduced to an “ugly concrete structure.” He called upon citizens to unite in protecting the heritage, faith, and identity of Margao for present and future generations.
