Prithvi Nayak’s poetry reflects a strong social conscience: Hema Nayak
Panaji:
The social commitment and contemporary concerns reflected in young poet Prithvi Nayak’s poetry collection Thode Bold Thoden Old are deeply relevant to today’s society, said noted writer Hema Nayak.
She was speaking at the release of the Konkani poetry collection Thode Bold Thoden Old, published under the ‘Payalo Chanvar’ scheme of the Goa Konkani Academy and brought out by Sath Prakashan, at a function organised by the Government Arts, Science and Commerce College, Khandola.
Director of the Directorate of Education Bhushan Sawaikar, Vice-President of the Goa Konkani Academy Ramesh Ghadi, Principal Dr. Purnakala Samant, and the poet’s parents Chanda and Chandrakant Nayak were present on the dais.
Hema Nayak observed that the boldness and courage shown by the younger generation were rarely allowed in earlier times.
“We were not permitted to express our thoughts as freely as today’s youth do. The way this generation articulates itself with such openness is commendable,” she said.
Speaking on the occasion, Ramesh Ghadi said that Thode Bold Thoden Old displays remarkable maturity and depth for a writer of Prithvi’s age. He also emphasised the need to extend the Konkani Academy’s Payalo Chanvar scheme to young writers in Goa’s villages to nurture emerging literary voices.
Dr. Purva Vasta, Assistant Professor in the Department of Marathi at Goa University, offered a critical appreciation of the book, discussing its themes, style, and linguistic freshness. A special artwork by the book’s illustrator Sameer Naik was also unveiled during the event.
Principal Dr. Purnakala Samant welcomed the gathering, while Vice-Principal Dr. Dilacta D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks. Sneha Nayak compered the programme.
