Public Funds Misused in Margao Festival Arrangements, Claims Prabhav Naik
MARGAO: Madganvcho Awaaz youth leader Prabhav Naik has levelled serious allegations against Margao MLA and Minister Digambar Kamat, claiming that public funds allocated under the MLALAD Scheme were misused during the recent Ganeshotsav celebrations in Margao.
Addressing the media, Mr. Naik accused Mr. Kamat of “betraying public trust” and “misusing religious occasions for political gain.” He said that a formal complaint has been submitted to the South Goa Collector, seeking an inquiry into the alleged ₹75 lakh expenditure under the MLALAD Scheme for the Ganeshotsav pandal.
Mr. Naik alleged that the funds meant for community development were diverted to benefit select groups, describing the act as “an insult to the sanctity of the festival.” He added that “religious events like Ganeshotsav are meant to foster unity and devotion, not serve as platforms for political patronage.”
Calling for transparency, Mr. Naik demanded that the government make public all expenditure details related to the Ganeshotsav celebrations in Margao. “Every rupee of taxpayer money must be accounted for. The people of Margao have a right to know how their money is spent,” he said.
Madganvcho Awaaz, the civic group led by Mr. Naik, has pledged to pursue the matter until accountability is ensured. “This is not just about politics, it’s about integrity in public life,” he stated.
