Need to Increase direct international and domestic flights to attract more tourists : Rohan Khaunte

Goa’s Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte, met Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on August 10 and requested him to increase direct international flights and improve air connectivity to and from major Indian cities.

Not only this, Khaunte spoke to Shekhawat about expediting the Central Government’s PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme for the Basilica of Bom Jesus. According to an official release, a senior tourism department noted, “A primary focus of their [Khaunte and Shekhawat’s] conversation was enhancing international connectivity to Goa, which is crucial for attracting more of international visitors.”

“The minister highlighted the importance of aligning the PRASHAD scheme with the upcoming exposition of St Francis Xavier’s relics in Goa, which is expected to garner considerable international attention,” the release noted.

The official mentioned that timely execution of the project would enrich the spiritual and cultural experience of travellers in Goa d would enhance the overall tourism appeal of the state.

Meanwhile, Khaunte requested the Centre to support the state to improve its tourism infrastructure and consider promoting the state around the world. The Union Tourism Minister has reportedly assured Goa of complete support, aiming to enhance tourism initiatives to boost footfalls.
